Initial Review, 1,500 Miles on Tires
February 02, 2014
The Continental PureContact replaced the OEM Pirelli P6 4Seasons. The Pirellis were very much at the end of their useful life as the first snow of the season demonstrated. I have had Continental ProContacts in the past and liked them. My first significant trip with them was a week after I got them on a 400 mile round trip with mostly highway miles. The good: The PureContacts are good in the snow and wet. Handling is good and the ride is better than the Pirellis. The not so good: They are fairly noisy around town and the noise increases significantly at freeway speeds. At 80mph+ there is a vibration and a howl. The vibration and howl get worse as speed increases. I have had the tires rebalanced since and it has not improved the noise, vibration or howl. Maybe an alignment will improve all three of these issues, but there was no vibration or howling with the Pirellis just prior to their replacement. Maybe the road noise, vibration and howling will get better as the ambient temperature increases, but I am doubtful.
