Now is the time of year to get our campers, RVs and utility trailers out of storage and ready for summer trips. Before hitting the road, you need to look at the tires' wear and age. You'll also need to see if there are any bubbles, tread separations or cracks.

Our experience has been that when properly stored and cared for, most street tires have a useful life in service of between six to ten years. Unfortunately, no one is absolutely sure of how long tires will last because of many variables. Heavily loaded tires equipped on vehicles stored outdoors in sunny, hot climates and only driven occasionally face some of the most severe service conditions and potentially have the shortest calendar lifespan. In contrast, lightly loaded tires on vehicles parked in garages and driven daily in moderate climates experience some of the least severe service conditions and potentially have the longest lifespan.

If you need to replace tires on your camper, RV or utility trailer, take a look at the Power King Towmax STR, Goodyear Marathon Radial and Kumho Radial 857.

Towmax STR tires feature a symmetric tread design with a solid center rib to provide constant rubber-to-road contact to enhance highway stability, traction and wear. The tire’s internal structure features twin steel belts (15” and 16” sizes are reinforced with a nylon cap ply that further stabilizes the tread to increase durability). The Towmax STR’s rounded profile and polyester cord body are designed to help smooth out the trailer's ride.

Marathon Radial tires feature a rounded profile to enhance ride quality and a symmetric tread design with a solid center rib to provide constant rubber-to-road contact that delivers dependable highway stability, traction and long-lasting wear. Internally, the Marathon Radial features twin steel belts (with select sizes reinforced with nylon cap plies) that stabilize the tread to increase traction and durability.

The Radial 857 features a 4-rib design to provide dependable highway stability, traction and durability. It also has twin steel belts that stabilize the tread to increase traction, while a 2-ply, polyester cord body helps even out the trailer's ride.

If your camper, RV or utility trailer is due for a tire upgrade, be sure to shop by size and compare the trailer tires available for your application.
