Initial Review, 6,500 Miles on Tires
December 25, 2014
I don't understand why this tire gets bad reviews. They are standard on my 4Runner, and were on my 2004 4Runner. I was going to switch for the (In my opinion) best SUV tire made, the Goodyear Silent Armour, however after a few miles I decided to wait until a replacement is needed. The recent heavy rain in CA was no problem, I have been to the snow twice, and tried doughnuts (slow) in the ski resort parking lot...pretty good traction in hard snow! The ride is nice even though I inflate them to 48 front, 44 back. My only issue is with towing a 3,500 ski boat/trailer. I prefer extra plies for firmness but now that I have my boat in the lake, it's not that important.
Dry steering response is acceptable..hey, it's a 4,500 lb SUV, but it seems to wander a bit from a straight line on the freeway. It may be the air pressure, but I did not experience this trait with a LT tire on my old 4Runner.
I think that people complaining about this tire with a 4Runner or Cruiser may want to change rear (at least) shocks. The 4Runner shocks are soooo soft that it felt like the rear end came around two minutes after turn-in! With Bilstein 4600 on the back, the handling is MUCH better as is the ride (I like firm) The Bilsteins also stopped that annoying (apparent) front dive when breaking...which is actually the rear end lifting...all gone with the better shocks!
Hope this helps!
